So once again an extremist American Church Fellowship appears to have completely lost its marbles and gone bananas! Well, the intention to mark the anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks with a corporate burning of copies of the Koran, (Islam's Holy Book) is not exactly the wisest of ideas...
Its almost as if The Dove World Outreach Center have joined the ranks of the Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church with the only difference being this is an attack against Muslims rather than Homosexuals. Although having said that, this whole burning of the Koran is nothing new... in fact, Westboro Baptist Church beat this small Florida fellowship to it two years ago... no surprise there... but then again everyone is going to Hell according to Westboro...
You know what, it makes me so angry to see these kinds of fellowships call themselves Christian and then attempt to back up their extreme acts and condemnation with scripture. Then of course there is a commercialism through selling of merchandise related to these sick acts... yet again another hypocrisy.
What about the Muslims though? Well my prayers are with them as they are publicly judged and condemned by these so called "Christians". However, I also fear that these acts will lead to retribution attacks by Islamic Extremists... its the perfect excuse that fundamental extremist figures need to brainwash more into their ranks. Not to mention this obviously presents another risk to troops currently serving in Afghanistan, not to mention the public back home.
So, irrelevant of who got their first or not, the protest is about the building of a Mosque on the site of ground zero in New York. Whilst we are all entitled to our views on this matter, to go out and condemn Muslims and burn the Koran publicly just is not the answer! I think this fellowship needs to get its act together fast and re-read the Gospels and then sit and ask themselves "What would Jesus do?"... as I'm quite sure Jesus wouldn't go as far as to judge others and burn books. In fact I believe that God is probably more upset with these kinds of extremist action which totally go against what love is...
What is also amazing is that The Dove World Outreach Center preaches on how God loves everyone and yet they seem to be doing a fantastic job of demonstrating this love... if they feel that the love of God is judgement, condemnation, hell, fire and brimstone then I'm afraid they have got it very very wrong indeed... because God's love is unconditional no matter on the individual...
If any Muslims or other non-Christians read this post or indeed the news articles please, please do not accept this despicable act to represent the majority of Christianity... and are just as appalled and sickened by this loveless act as you are...
Lets face it... extremist bigots are present in every faith and religion... unfortunately, some just go too far.
However, just we should always remember that the actions of the minority do not account for the actions of the majority. Just because some Muslim extremists blow themselves up in the name of Allah does not make all Muslims the same... and just because some Christian extremists decide to burn the Koran does not make all Christians the same... fundamentally speaking though (and I strongly believe this applies to everyone irrelevant of faith), no one is perfect...
If I could ask one question to Pastor Terry Jones of The Dove World Outreach Center, it would have to be "do you not think that condemnation and burning the Koran is of the devil?"....
Pastor Terry, thank you for your condemnation of Europe, but I pray for your deliverance....
